Range Information

The Whittington Center hosts a variety of shooting ranges, including ranges for smallbore rifle, high power rifle, black powder, trap, skeet, sporting clays, hunter sight-in, PPC, smallbore rifle silhouette, highpower rifle silhouette, long range pistol silhouette, hunter pistol silhouette, benchrest, and practical pistol. All ranges are designed so that every range on the Whittington Center can be used concurrently.


 

Range Rules

1. Know and obey all range commands

2. Range (red) flag must be flown at each range prior to commencement of any shooting on that range.

3. Shooting will take place on designated ranges only.

4. All firearms must remain unloaded with actions open except on a firing line.

5. Appropriate firearms must be used on each range. There will be no exceptions. A handgun may be carried on one's person only in a holster designed for the safe and secure retention of that handgun. No handgun will be removed from a holster except at the firing line, in accordance with range rules. All handguns will be carried in a manner conforming to State Law.

• Smallbore Silhouette - .22 rim fire only.
• Long Range Pistol Silhouette - any pistol and lever action rifles with tube magazines only. No other rifles may be used on this range.
• High Power Silhouette - No center-fire .22's, no belted magnums.
• Hunter Pistol Silhouette - All revolvers, semi-autos, and single-shot pistols may be used. NO bolt action firearms, or any pistols firing center-fire rifle cartridges.

6. No military armor piercing or tracer ammunition may be used on any range.

7. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed on or behind any firing line, or in any building adjacent to any range while shooting is in progress. Violators will be asked to leave premises. No fees will be refunded.

8. Most ranges will be closed during unguided hunts. No pedestrian or vehicular traffic allowed north of range roads C and D except during hunts. All vehicles are restricted to open designated roadways only.

9. No smoking or BBQ grills are allowed at any time in the housing units. Violators will be escorted off the premises. No fees will be refunded.

10. Maximum speed limit: 35mph, 10mph through developed areas; i.e., ranges, campgrounds, housing area, etc.

11. No silhouette targets may be removed from any range. Smallbore rifle silhouette targets will be checked in and out at the gate.

12. PPC range use is limited to law enforcement use only, unless approved by the Director.

13. Open fires in primitive campground in designated fire pits only.

14. All pets must be on a leash, No pets in any building.

15. No littering.

16. No shooter 18 or younger may use range facilities without adult supervision.

17. Ear and eye protection must be worn by all shooters.

18. Hunting shed antlers is prohibited.

19. No Full Auto may be used on any range without prior approval of the Director.

 

Range Fees


Informal daily range fees - $15.00

Event sponsor daily usage fee per participant - $ 10.00

Sporting Clays (100 birds) - $ 30.00

5 stand (per 25 bird round) - $ 7.00

Trap & skeet (per 25 bird round) - $ 3.00
