NRA Whittington Center; 1,000 Yard
The FCSA World Championship is a premier international competition dedicated to long-range precision shooting with .50 BMG and similar rifles. Hosted at the NRA Whittington Center’s 1,000-yard range near Raton, New Mexico, this multi-day match challenges shooters’ abilities in extreme long-range marksmanship under real-world field conditions.
Competitors compete in several classes — Light Gun, Heavy Gun, Unlimited, and Hunter — with matches shot either from machine rests at benches or from the prone position with bipods in the Hunter class. Each shooter fires in multiple relays over the course of the event to ensure fair competition regardless of variable wind and weather, with scoring based on both precision and group size over a standard 1,000-yard course of fire.
The World Championship draws precision rifle competitors from across the U.S. and internationally, promoting camaraderie, sportsmanship, and excellence in the demanding discipline of .50 caliber shooting. Spectators and participants alike enjoy the Whittington Center’s renowned facilities, rugged high-desert landscape, and rich tradition of top-tier marksmanship events.

Come stay with us! The general public is welcome to stay at the Whittington Center. There is a broad range of housing to accommodate individuals, couples, and small to large groups.
Shooters can take part in competitive shooting, rifle and pistol silhouette, bullseye disciplines, and even black powder muzzle-loading rifles.
