Cooper Rifle Walk
The Jeff Cooper Theodore Roosevelt Memorial is an annual celebration held at the NRA Whittington Center that brings together shooters, firearms enthusiasts, and admirers of Jeff Cooper’s influential contributions to the shooting sports and firearms training. Named in honor of Cooper — a Marine Corps veteran, pioneer of modern pistolcraft, and founder of the American Pistol Institute — the event celebrates his legacy through informal shooting activities, rifle and pistol exercises, and social gatherings across multiple days. In keeping with tradition, the event also reflects the rugged individualism and adventurous spirit of President Theodore Roosevelt, whom Cooper admired deeply. Historically, the memorial has included days of shooting competitions, clay and rifle games, and evening recitations or reflections.
Held against the stunning backdrop of the Whittington Center — one of the nation’s premier shooting and outdoor facilities — participants enjoy a full range of disciplines including rifle, pistol, shotgun activities, and relaxed time with fellow sportsmen and sportswomen. This event captures both the technical expertise and fellowship that defined Cooper’s life and has become a treasured tradition for the Whittington community.

Come stay with us! The general public is welcome to stay at the Whittington Center. There is a broad range of housing to accommodate individuals, couples, and small to large groups.
Shooters can take part in competitive shooting, rifle and pistol silhouette, bullseye disciplines, and even black powder muzzle-loading rifles.
