Small Bore Rifle Range
The Lones Wigger Firecracker 4800 is a distinguished Regional Conventional Smallbore Rifle Prone Championship held annually at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. Sponsored by the Socorro Gun Club, this NRA‑registered match brings together smallbore rifle shooters from across the region for four days of precision prone competition using current NRA prone rules.
Competitors shoot a series of NRA conventional prone courses of fire including Dewar (50 & 100 yds), 100 yd, and 50 m matches with both iron sights and any sights. Daily matches are aggregated each day and across the event to create the overall 4800‑point championship aggregate. Time‑honored NRA classification and award systems apply, and all shooters receive a commemorative tee shirt.
In addition to the conventional prone championship, Scope Class competitors and F‑Class smallbore shooters are welcomed with their own award pools. Juniors and collegiate competitors can also compete for regular match awards when entering at the full rate.
The Whittington Center’s renowned facility — nestled in the scenic high plains near the Sangre de Cristo mountains — provides an ideal setting for this precision rifle event, offering excellent range infrastructure, community camaraderie, and opportunities to engage with shooters and enthusiasts alike.
