Randy Powell

Randy Powell, owner and operator of Thunder Ammo & Arms is a pioneer in the development of bullet design, focusing on accuracy and extreme range stability. Working mostly with 50 BMG, 460 Steyr, 416 Barrett, and 338 Lapua, but not limited to these calibers. Randy has a reputation of offering some of the most accurate competition ammunition in the world. He also designs chambers around his bullet profiles to maximize efficiency, gaining velocity while reducing pressure spikes.

TA&A ammunition holds the current Fifty Caliber Shooters Association (FCSA) 50 BMG Hunter Class 1000-yard World Record, a 2.782” 5 shot group. The bullet and chamber used to set the record were designed by Randy. He also provides 50 BMG ammunition for Police SWAT and Tactical units across the USA and has supplied US Military special forces units with match grade 50 cal. ammunition.

Randy is also an accomplished Extreme Long Range competitor with many top 5 finishes, and several wins, in addition to being an FCSA 1000-yard Iron Man (4 Gun) Champion. Randy raised two sons with his wife Maria, Mason and Andrew, who both became 50 BMG 1000-yard World Champions. Randy has run matches at the NRAWC since 2009, 50 BMG 1000-yard regionals and two FCSA World Championships. In recent years Randy has helped the NRAWC develop a range and runs Extreme Long Range Matches.

Randy has many years of experience as an informal teacher, helping people improve their marksmanship skills and ballistics application to the art of long range shooting and gun safety. He is Certified as an NRA Rifle and Pistol Instructor as well as a Certified NRA Range Safety officer. Now we are proud to bring his expertise to our classroom and range as the Whittington U Lead Long Range Precision Rifle Instructor.
